John Wilkes Booth: John Wilkes Booth was the ninth out of ten children. His father, Junius Brutus Booth, came to America from England in the early 1820’s. Booth was born on May 10, 1846. His father was in a scandal because he never officially divorced his first wife before marrying his second wife. John Wilkes Booth was young at the time and it made a big impact on him because he was immensely proud of his family name. He, like his brothers, became an actor and made his first impression at the Charles Street Theater in Baltimore. He then moved to the Marshall Theater in Richmond, Virginia. There he became known for his good looks, his acrobatic acts, and his popularity with the ladies. John supported slavery and briefly enlisted in the Confederate Army to witness John Brown’s hanging. He then invested in an oil company. Booth did not see quick profits and withdrew from the investment, loosing most of his savings. He began acting less and less and eventually fell into debt. He also accidentally shot himself in the leg when using his friend's pistol. Mrs. and Mr. Lincoln attended one of John’s plays. John attended two of Lincoln's speeches. He then, after plotting to kill him, shot Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre.
