Thomas Jackson: Stonewall Jackson was a war hero, and a famous Confederate General in the Civil War . After a very rough childhood he graduated from the West Point Military Academy in New York. He graduated just in the nick of time to fight in the American Mexican War. After his service and time in the military he left to pursue a teaching career. When his beloved home of Virginia seceded from the American union in 1861, Jackson quickly joined the Confederate Army. Soon Jackson made a reputation for himself as a fearless and tenacious fighter, and someone who was a good fit for the role as a general during the Shenandoah Valley Campaign in 1862. He also served under the magnificent general Robert E. Lee for the majority of the Civil War. He was chosen for his attitude and determination. He became a lieutenant general for Robert E. Lee, and led a significant part of Lee's army. Thomas ¨Stonewall” Jackson played a massive role in every single battle he participated in. He earned his nickname in the First Battle of Bull Run. Sadly enough he was human, and he died by friendly fire at the Battle of Chancellorsville.
