Ulysses S. Grant: Ulysses S. Grant was responsible for the victorious army of the North during the Civil War. He also served as the 18th president of the United States. Being from Ohio he graduated from West Point Military Academy, and fought in the Mexican and American war. Grant, during the Civil War, was a fearless and ruthless leader, and was assigned the task of commanding all of the U.S Armies. His forces captured a stronghold in Vicksburg. The battle proved how tenacious he was and Abraham Lincoln made him a lieutenant. He ultimately lead a series of campaigns that slowly but surely whittled down the Confederate forces. Grant was Greatly responsible for bringing one of the biggest problems at that time to an end. After the Civil War Ulysses was praised and loved for his heroic actions as General. He was loved so much that all the northerners voted for him when he ran for president in 1868. The major purpose or action of Ulysses as president was to help the south ease back into the union. He also tried to protect the rights of free slaves in the north and the south. That was Ulysses S. Grant’s Life.
