Second Inaugural Address: Abraham Lincoln gave his second inaugural address on March 4, 1865. When Abraham Lincoln gave his inaugural address, he started out talking but made the impression that it wasn’t really necessary to be talking. Then later he addresses what the war was, what led up to it, what its role was, and what its effects were. In this speech he was not trying to make the people feel victorious or joyful that the war ended. Instead, he spoke about how slavery was the main reason for the war and that the abolition of slavery is going to be the outcome of the war. The north wanted Lincoln to make a victory speech and suppress the south but instead Lincoln used the speech to reunite the country and move forward, past the war. Lincoln also addressed that god wanted the people of the U.S to solve this issue, but because the only way we could do that was through war, we must finish it and see it through to the end. Only one month after the address he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. Sadly He was not able to see the results of all his hard work to unite the nation.
